iPad Owners Are ‘Selfish Elites.’
It’s not exactly official, but should also surprise no one: According to a new study the psychological profile of iPad owners can be summed up as “selfish elites” while have-not critics are “independent geeks.”
![]() Of course the “haves” would probably call the “have nots” “cheap wannabes” to which the “have nots” would retort: “FANBOI!!” Which is why we should stick to the science. Consumer research firm MyType conducted the study, in which opinions of 20,000 people were analyzed between March and May. The firm’s conclusion was that iPad owners tend to be wealthy, sophisticated, highly educated and disproportionately interested in business and finance, while they scored terribly in the areas of altruism and kindness. In other words, “selfish elites.” They are six times more likely to be “wealthy, well-educated, power-hungry, over-achieving, sophisticated, unkind and non-altruistic 30-50 year olds,” MyType’s Tim Koelkebeck told Wired.com. 96 percent those most likely to criticize the iPad, on the other hand, don’t even own one, although as geeks, they were slightly more likely to do so than the average population — and far more likely to have an opinion about the device one way or the other (updated). This group tends to be “self-directed young people who look down on conformity and are interested in videogames, computers, electronics, science and the internet,” said Koelkebeck. MORE: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/...ks-says-study/ EDIT: I just realized I posted this in gadgets.. is news more appropriate?

again with the poor use of the term "well educated" when speaking about a product it needs to be made clear the difference between someone who's worked in aspecific field of study and earned a graduates degree and a consumer who's educated on the product.
in this case it's a misleading statement and makes the author tainted as in he's part of the "selfish elite" and is trying to make all non ipad owners sound like they have no idea what it can or cannot do. this is simply untrue.

I only personally know of one iPad owner, and it was only a gift for him. Never knew anyone else with one, because they are indeed 'selfish elites'.

I have an iPod and iPhone, and for the reason of this. The iPod has a nice HD on it for tv shows and music, and comes at a reasonable price. The iPhone, well Android smartphones werent available really yet. Was just one with a crappy keyboard on it. But anyway it was a good choice compared to a BB storm and im happy with that. As for the iPad, neat toy but not worth the money. I'll never buy a mac.

I have an iPhone 3GS, as it was the best phone for the money with the best display and touch screen at buying time. The Android choices were more expensive, and had crappier screens and touch. And Android wasn't exactly a great OS at that time either.

The ipad would be good for a person who travels alot, wants their media large enough to see, easy enough to transport, has enough know how to host a server with their media for on the fly change ups, and has the patients to do with out a few items or make do.
That leaves about .000005% off the population. The rest of the owners are just starschmucks blogger twats. |

Yeah, but those people that could use iPad in that manner could probably find a superior device to achieve the same results.
I'd take an iPad if given to me, but I would never buy one. |

pretty much apple just released it becuase they wanted something to sell. I would never use one you cant store it very well. I have a very large purse and it would be even too bulky for it. I would take a MS courier anyday when they are released becuase they fold like a laptop and have two screens with a much more intuitive interface. I would get one for my design work. Please release the courier MS!!!!!

And how much more intuitive do you want? iOS on iPhone and iPad is as intuitive as it gets. It takes no thought to operate at all. |

I thought it was too flashy for my tastes. the constant animations for every thing was obnoxious in a way. I felt dumbed down using it. Like my brain cells were gonna go away. It felt way too n00bish. at least the driod has more customizations and stuff. It felt like a power user UI and not something made for everyone. To me it felt more professional and not like some blinged out thing for teens.

well there's a difference between being intuitive interface and an interface designed for people who are n00bs. apple has to baby down thier products for thier target demographic.

No they don't. It's not dumbed down, it's just clean and simple. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I am a power user, and I still prefer Apple's interfaces. I want all the busy bullshit hidden until I call it up. |

That's because a PC's interface isn't as intuitive.

I find Apple's interface as quite weird. Doing things with my friend's iPad was quite weird. Doing things with my friends' various versions of iPods was quite weird too. That rotating circle is just stupid.

The circle is better for variable seek speeds. Why do you think pros use dials when editing anything based on a timeline?

With my phone I randomize it too, although it's only one playlist (J-pop/anime songs, some Stepmania/DDR/GuitarFreaks/DrumMania songs, and some other songs that are in English).
